William
W. Calhoun was born in Atlanta,
Georgia in 1960. He graduated from the University of Georgia in
1983, and then attended the University’s Law School, receiving his
J.D., cum laude, in 1987. Mr. Calhoun practiced privately in Atlanta
for three years, and then joined the office of the Attorney General
for the State of Georgia. During his nine years as an Assistant
Attorney General, Mr. Calhoun primarily represented the State Health
Planning Agency (now the Department of Community Health’s Division
of Health Planning) and the Department of Insurance, with a
secondary emphasis on the Board of Regents. His experience in
regulatory matters and litigation on behalf of the State of Georgia
is extensive.
Mr. Calhoun is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and numerous
professional associations. He is active in service
to the Bar, having served as a member of the State Bar of Georgia
Disciplinary Investigative Panel from 1996 to 1999. He has
served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Georgia's
Health Law Section, and served as Chair of that section from October
2005 to October 2006. Mr. Calhoun was selected for inclusion
in the 2009 Super Lawyers for the State of Georgia, a listing of
outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer
recognition and professional achievement. Also, Mr. Calhoun
graduated from the 2009 Class of Leadership Albany, a program
established for the purpose of identifying and developing leaders in
the Albany community. Since joining Langley & Lee in November
1999, Mr. Calhoun has represented clients in a variety of commercial
and regulatory matters involving a wide spectrum of businesses. Mr. Calhoun often serves
as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia.
